China’s MIIT allocates 100 million mobile numbers for V2X services
Beijing (Gasgoo)- To implement the government’s directives on expanding the leading advantages of intelligent connected new energy vehicles and boosting the consumption of these vehicles and other major electronic products, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently allocated 100 million 11-digit mobile communication network numbers exclusively for V2X (vehicle-to-everything) services.
China's intelligent connected vehicle industry is entering a new phase of high-quality development. In 2023, the country's automobile production and sales both reached record highs, exceeding 30 million units, with year-on-year growth of 11.6% and 12%, respectively.
Similar to how mobile phone users connect to networks using SIM cards, intelligent connected vehicles utilize IoT (internet of things) cards with dedicated V2X numbers to connect to 4G/5G networks. This connectivity supports various functions such as data communication between vehicles and manufacturers, onboard internet access and entertainment for passengers, as well as voice communication for emergency and roadside assistance, enhancing both safety and the user experience.
Moving forward, the MIIT will allocate V2X-specific numbers to relevant basic telecommunications enterprises following established procedures. The ministry will also enhance the management of numbering resources, continuously monitor industry development, and timely supplement numbering resources as needed. By leveraging the capabilities of the information and communications industry, the MIIT aims to support the high-quality development of intelligent connected vehicles and V2X services.
