Pony.ai approved for cross-regional autonomous driving pilot operation in China's Greater Bay Area

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On December 27, the "Framework Agreement for Cross-Regional Recognition and Cooperation in Pilot Applications of Intelligent Connected Vehicles" was officially signed in Guangdong province, along with the announcement of the first batch of enterprises granted cross-regional permit. Pony.ai is among the first autonomous driving companies to receive this qualification.

Under the agreement, intelligent connected vehicle enterprises that obtain pilot qualifications in one region can conduct operations in other recognized areas upon filing a report, eliminating regional barriers and expanding operational zones. This framework facilitates the integration and interconnection of pilot projects across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, positioning it as a benchmark for large-scale urban cluster applications in China.  

Pony.ai's autonomous vehicles will operate seamlessly across multiple regions in the Greater Bay Area, including key transit hubs such as airports and high-speed rail stations. As the first company in China to secure unmanned driving service licenses in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, Pony.ai's operational footprint spans over 2,000 square kilometers. In Guangzhou's Nansha and Shenzhen's Qianhai, Nanshan, and Bao'an districts, it has established nearly 3,000 service points, offering convenient Robotaxi services that passengers can summon with a simple tap on their smartphones.  

Additionally, Pony.ai's autonomous trucks will provide cross-city freight transportation, expanding the scope of commercial applications for autonomous driving and offering safe, reliable, and convenient mobility solutions for residents in the region.
