Pony.ai plans to offer Robotaxi service within Hong Kong International Airport

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Pony.ai is set to extend its autonomous driving services to another major global city. The Airport Authority Hong Kong recently announced that passenger-carrying autonomous vehicles are expected to begin operations by the end of 2025. During a media showcase, Pony.ai's sixth-generation Robotaxi was featured.

Entering Hong Kong International Airport marks a foundational step for Pony.ai to expand its operation across Hong Kong. It demonstrates the company's capability to navigate complex environments under left-hand traffic regulations. Initially, Pony.ai plans to offer Robotaxi commuting services for airport staff, with ambitions to gradually extend its autonomous mobility services to Hong Kong's urban areas.  

Launching Robotaxi service at Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest globally in both passenger and cargo volumes, is a significant stage for Pony.ai. The company has already launched paid autonomous shuttle services at Beijing Daxing International Airport and is conducting autonomous driving tests on key expressways connecting Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, preparing for future passenger-carrying operations. 

This expansion to Hong Kong aligns with broader efforts to enhance autonomous driving collaboration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Recently, a pilot framework agreement for mutual recognition of intelligent connected vehicle applications was signed in the GBA, involving cities such as Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Pony.ai is among the first companies to gain cross-region recognition, enabling its autonomous vehicles to operate seamlessly across GBA locations, including airports and train stations, providing reliable and convenient autonomous travel experiences.
