Top 10 PV makers sell 909,700 cars in Q1
 
Shanghai, April 10 (Gasgoo.com) Sales of China's domestically made passenger vehicles reached 1.42 million units in the first quarter of 2009, state media reported on Friday.

Shanghai Volkswagen Group was the top seller with 134,000 sedans sold, followed by FAW Volkswagen and Shanghai General Motors, with 131,100 and 106,800 units sold respectively, Xinhua said, citing the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

SAIC aims to sell 50,000 Roewe, MG cars in '09

Shanghai, April 10 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) aims to sell 50,000 Roewe and MG cars, the automaker's own-brand vehicles in 2009, said Chen Hong, president of SAIC to China Securities Journal.

SAIC sold 36,000 own-brand vehicles in 2008, a surge of 120% year on year.

GM China denies selling Buick brand to SAIC

Shanghai, April 10 (Gasgoo.com) An executive of GM China has denied a media report that General Motors would sell to its Chinese partner SAIC Motor the Buick brand or the exclusive rights to use this brand in China, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

GM aims to double China vehicle sales by 2013

Shanghai, April 9 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors Corp aims to double its annual sales in China to 2 million vehicles in five years, the Shanghai Securities News said on Thursday, citing a company spokesman.

To meet that target, the U.S. auto maker plans to add more than 30 new or upgraded models in China in the next five years, Sophia Luan, GM's spokeswoman in China, was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Ssangyong Motor says to cut 36% of workforce

Shanghai, April 8 (Gasgoo.com) Ssangyong Motor, currently under court receivership, announced on Wednesday that it needed to slash 36 percent of its workforce to revive the company, reported Reuters.

Ssangyong said in a statement that 2,520 employees of its current 7,000 will be laid off in an effort to normalize company management. The South Korea automaker, which is 51% owned by SAIC, expected an operating loss margin this year of 7.7 percent.

Geely to assemble MK-2, CK-2 sedans in Ukrain

Shanghai, April 8 (Gasgoo.com) Geely Auto, a Chinese-brand carmaker based in Zhejiang province, plans to assemble MK-2 and CK-2 sedans at Ukrain starting this July.

The two Geely car models will be produced at Kremenchugsky Avtosborochny Zavod (KrASZ), the Ukrainian assembler of AvtoVAZ, Ssangyong Motor Co and China's First Auto Works Group Corp (FAW Group).

China auto sales hit new high in Mar, top US in Q1

China's automobile sales may hit an all-time high in March and help the country to beat the US in automobile sales during the first quarter, a key official from the national planning body said yesterday.

"The 14 major automakers sold 1,026 million vehicles in China last month, which account for 90 to 91 percent of the total market," said Chen Bin, director general of the Department of Industry at the National Development and Reform Commission, during a shipbuilding industry forum in Beijing yesterday. 

Shanghai GM appoints new top executive

Shanghai, April 7 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai General Motors Co announced over the weekend that it has appointed Cai Bin, a former executive of SAIC Motor Corp, as the new deputy general manager of the joint venture and will report directly to Ding Lei, active general manager of the company.

Cai Bin, joined SAIC in 1993 and was once a marketing executive at Shanghai VW. He took the position as director of quality control and economic operation dept of SAIC since 2002.

Great Wall to unveil luxury SUV H7 at SH show

Shanghai, April 7 (Gasgoo.com) Great Wall Motor, a Chinese automaker that has been making and selling mid- and low-end SUVs, is to launch a high-end luxury SUV model, codenamed Hover H7, at the 2009 Shanghai auto show later this month, xinhuanet.com said today.

A technician of the Chinese SUV-maker revealed that the Hover H7 SUV will be powered by the 3.0L V6 engine, featuring the 6-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4-wheel drive technology, with top speed of 225km. The ABS+EBD, ESP, and other safety configurations will provide safe and comfortable driving experience.
