Shanghai, April 9 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng Yulon, a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corp and Taiwan's biggest auto maker Yulon Motors, will have its Luxgen-brand sedan roll off the assembly line at its plant in Hangzhou by the end of this year, local media reported.
This sedan, developed by Dongfeng Yulon, will be the first car to be produced ever in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang province, unveiling a new chapter in the scenic city's vehicle manufacturing history, said Shanghai Daily yesterday.
The joint venture invested 3.4 billion yuan ($499 million) to build a factory in Linjiang Auto Industrial Park in Hangzhou, with an annual capacity of 120,000 passenger cars, 5,000 commercial vehicles and 120,000 vehicle engines.
Zhou Wenjie, deputy manager of Dongfeng Motor, said the company wants to make both passenger cars and commercial vehicles in Hangzhou, a city with huge market potential, and become a strong player in its future auto manufacturing industry.
Dongfeng Hangzhou Motor under Dongfeng Motor Corp, which produces 30,000 medium- and large-size buses per year, would be merged into Dongfeng Yulon Motor Co., a joint venture that recently got mainland China's regulatory approval.
Yulon, whose product portfolio includes SUVs and MPVs, also plans to produce electric cars with Dongfeng Motor at the Hangzhou-based venture. The Taiwan carmaker will also build Geely Panda-derived minicars re-named "Tobe".
