The battery-powered car is built on the platform of the petrol version of Toyota iQ, which the Japanese automaker has launched at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2008 and been selling in the domestic and other overseas markets except China.
The all-electric version of the iQ will however be imported to the Chinese market earlier than the petrol version, the above source said.
Due to sharing the same platform, the two versions have exactly the same body size, interior and exterior. According to xcar.com.cn, the Toyota iQ electric car measues (LxWxH) 2980mm x 1680mm x 1480mm.
In regard to power system, the car adopts a 1.0 liter inline three-cylinder engine producing 70 horsepower at 6,000rmp and matching a five-speed manual transmission. It is also equipped with a 1.3 liter inline four -cylinder engine delivering maximum power of 99hp.
The iQ electric car features lithium ion batteries which provides power to four in-wheel motors. That enables the car to travel up to 150km (93 miles) on a full charge. Toyota estimates that recharging should take about eight hours, but the exact time will depend on a number of variables.
