Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 3) - The first batch of Dongfeng Yulon's first own brand vehicle, the Luxgen SUV, have begun rolling off the joint venture's Xiaoshan factory in Hangzhou, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reported today. The SUV reportedly looks to be priced between 190,000 and 270,000 yuan ($29,592-$42,051).

When compared with other compact SUVs, the Luxgen is relatively large, sporting a wheelbase of 2.91m and equipped with a 2.2 L I4 engine and five speed automatic transmission. Moreover, whether talking about exterior design or interior adornment, the Luxgen is quite a step above other domestic SUVs. The SUV comes with a wide assortment of optional accessories. The Luxgen looks to combine mainland construction with Taiwanese technology.

Wu Xinfa, CEO of Dongfeng Yulon, said that the joint venture had chosen to make the Luxgen because it saw a lot of unearthed potential in the segment. While growth in automobile sales has slowed down a considerable amount this year, SUV sales have been doing reasonably well.

Dongfeng Yulon plans to produce one or two new own brand models within the next five years, Mr. Wu added.
