Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 5) - According to a report appearing on qlwb.com.cn this weekend, the government has approved legislation which allows drivers to freely drive on toll roads during certain holidays. The legislation was drawn up by the Ministry of Transport and four other bodies.

According to the policy, toll roads will be free for the general public to drive on during the Spring Festival (February 10 next year), Qingming Festival (April 4 next year), Labor Day (May 1) and the National Day Festival (October 1). The toll exemption will last for the entire durations of the holidays. Any motorcycle, or automobile with seven seats or less, will not have to pay fees on tolled highways, tunnels and bridges. Whether or not the toll exemption will also cover airport expressways is up to the discretion of regional authorities.

The government is taking extensive precautions to ensure that no incidents occur on toll roads during the holiday periods. According to the Ministry of Transport's calculations, the policy will help the country's drivers save tens of billions of yuan a year.
