Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 23) - Zhejiang Geely Group, alongside its new partner Ghabbour Auto, has announced the completion of its new factory in Egypt's capital of Cairo, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. Geely estimates the new knockdown factory's yearly production capacity to reach 30,000 units. Its first vehicle will be the Emgrand EC7.

Egypt marks the next step in Geely's marketing strategy for the region. Geely first entered the Middle East in 2003 after signing an export agreement with Syrian enterprise Mallouk. Its performances in both that country and in Iraq have been noteworthy.

Partner Ghabbour Auto has led Egypt's passenger automobile market for the last seven years. It also works in the commercial vehicle, motorcycle and auto part fields, and has branches in Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Algeria and other neighboring countries.

Geely has exported over 57,000 vehicles from January to August, representing year-on-year growth of over 200 percent. Over 24,000 of those exports, 43 percent of Geely's overall export volume, were sent to the Middle East and North Africa.
