Skoda is trying to come back to the battle field of mid-size segment in China

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Nov 3)- Shanghai Volkswagen has recently launched New Superb whose official price is from 169,800 yuan to 276,800 yuan.

Compared with the existing Superb, this new model has upgraded the design and assessment to attract young customers. As the development of automotive market slows down, lots of automobile enterprises in China switch their targets to some specific segments. Industry insides believe that with a more fashion and modern image, New Superb is relied on to remold the brand image of Skoda of Shanghai Volkswagen and increase the market share of mid-size cars.

Actually, the design of the existing Skoda seems too stable to be attractive compared with Passat of Shanghai Volkswagen and Magotan of Faw-Volkswagen, which can lead to its bad performance in the market since the young generation who prefer fashion factors have gradually become the main car buyers nowadays. Statistics show that the sales of Superb only reached 116,000 in the first three quarters this year. The design of New Superb now becomes more fashion and dynamic, radically different from the existing one. Therefore, New Superb turns out to be an important car Skoda plays to improve its brand image and increase the market share.

"New Superb is referred to be the consummate model of Skoda. This superiority is not only reflected in the body size and power allocation, but also in the infotainment system, Mobile Internet and the driving assistance,” declared Werner Eichhorn, board member responsible for brand marketing and sales of Skoda.

New Superb was produced on the MQB of Shanghai Volkswagen and equipped with TSI with a displacement of 1.4T, 1.8T and 2.0T respectively. As to the drive system, only the model with TSI engines with a displacement of 1.4T uses the five-speed manual transmission. The others are all equipped with theseven-speeddual-clutch transmission. Besides, New Superb with TSI engines with a displacement of 1.4T and 1.8T is also equipped with the Stop-Start. Meanwhile, this new model also deploys the third generation turbocharged engine of manifold injection technology and the high-tech configuration carrying the second generation Modular Infotainment Base (short for MIB).

According to the “2018 strategy” announced by Skoda, its sales needs to reach 1.5 million in 2018, of which Chinese market should take up more than one-third share, that is, more than 50 million. It is analyzed that Octavia is the best seller of Skoda. In attempt to achieve the goal, it will compete with Magotan of Faw-Volkswagen, Regal of SAIC-GM, Peugeot 508, and Camry of GAC Toyota Motor in the market of mid-size cars.
