Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Weiming Soh, a long-serving executive at Volkswagen Group, will depart from the German auto giant, according to an internal letter from Mobility Asia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group.
Mr. Soh, born in Singapore, joined Volkswagen Group in March 2005. In 2013, he was named EVP (Executive Vice President) of Volkswagen Group. This role is in addition to being EVP of Volkswagen Group China and Member of the Board of Management, managing Group Business Development & Partnership Strategy, as well as Chairman of Volkswagen Group Import.

Afterwards he assumed the roles of CEO of Mobility Asia and Chairman of CAMS New Energy Technology Co.,Ltd (CAMS).
Due to the extensive responsibilities, his core businesses will be taken over by four senior executives, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
According to Mobility Asia's internal letter, Mr. Soh, as a brilliant manager and reformer, built a sales system befitting the varied market climate and helped reshape Volkswagen brand. During his tenure, Volkswagen has advanced into an automobile brand with most market share and a product matrix covering all segments. The sales of Volkswagen Group surged to 3.85 million units in 2020 from 710,000 units in 2006.
In recent years, Mr. Soh shifted more efforts to emerging businesses. Under his leadership, Mobility Asia was founded in May of 2018 serving as a pioneer of Volkswagen's transformation to mobility service provider. Mobility Asia features service offerings ranging from vehicle connectivity, Autonomous Vehicle based MaaS to smart mobility infrastructure build-out including charging station networks for EV, and, on top of those, the connected mobility ecosystem.
To build up a lineup for BEV sales in long term, CAMS, a charging service company was set up in July 2019, together with FAW Group, JAC Motors and Start Charge. Mr. Soh serves as chairman of the joint venture. As of today, CAMS has deployed 1,000 fast charging poles within more than 200 supercharging stations in 16 cities across China.
