China’s number of EV charging piles jumps 47.3% YoY to 1.947 million by June 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China had roughly 1.947 million EV charging piles by the end of June 2021, representing 47.3% growth compared to the cumulative number for the year-ago period, according to China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA).

The total number of public charging piles in China grew to 923,381 by the end of June 2021, including around 374,000 DC piles, 550,000 AC piles, and 426 DC-AC integrated charging piles, the EVCIPA said after compiling the data reported by members of the alliance. There were around 30,400 public charging piles newly deployed per month on average between July 2020 and June 2021.

As of June 2021, there have been about 66,000 charging stations in China. In terms of the volume of charging stations, the top five provinces or direct-administered municipalities were Guangdong (10,514), Jiangsu (5,981), Zhejiang (5,355), Shanghai (5,337), and Beijing (5,190).

By the end of June 2021, China had a total of 716 battery swapping stations, 221 and 110 of which are located in Beijing and Guangdong respectively, the only two provinces or direct-administered municipalities having more than 100 stations.

For the first six months of 2021, there were 266,000 EV charging piles newly built across China, including 116,000 public charging piles (+176% YoY) and 151,000 private ones (+147.9% YoY).

As of June 2021, there were 11 operators in China with over 10,000 charging piles. The top three companies were TELD (219,665), Star Charge (201,603), and State Gird (196,484).
