Beijing (Gasgoo)- Xiaomi’s engineering prototype vehicle is reportedly expected for unveiling at an open event in August by the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, local media outlet Sina Technology disclosed on July 15th.

Sources close to the matter told Sina Tech that after the prototype showcase, Xiaomi will launch a series of tests on the prototype model, including winter tests. 

However, soon after the news spread, the head of Xiaomi public relations commented that “the rumor was untrue and the “source” must be unreliable” to another local media outlet, China’s Market. The head advised the public to view the hearsay with discretion. 

According to Xiaomi’s previous plans, its first vehicle model will be put into mass production in 2024. Lei Jun is heavily investing in automobile development that he reportedly spends 2/3 of his time in Xiaomi’s technology campus in the automaking section.

Sina Technology said that Xiaomi has poached a team from Shanghai Hvst Automobile Design, the same team in charge of the design and engineering of WM Motor’s Maven concept car.
