Judging from the overall monthly retail volume of new energy passenger vehicles ("NEPV") in China, Tesla secured 1.7% of the market in July, notching down 2.2 percentage points year over year. At the same time, China’s locally-owned brands accounted for 73% of the entire NEPV market, increasing by 9 percentage points from a year ago. The market share of new energy vehicle startups amounted to 16.5% in the past month, slipping 4.6 percentage points compared to the earlier year.
Overall, China’s NEPV wholesale volume hit a new high in July, with 16 automakers selling over 10,000 vehicles. The CPCA commented that the market was mainly driven by BYD, Chery Holding, and GAC Group's blooming sales.
In July, China’s NEPV wholesale volume skyrocketed 123.7% year on year while dropping down 1.1% over June to 564,000 vehicles. Notably, the monthly improvement in sales was better than the CPCA’s expectations. From January to July, there were a total of 3.03 million NEPVs sold via wholesale, more than doubled from a year ago by 123%.
