According to SAIC Motor, the project will cover a planned area of around 1,200mu (800,000 square meters) and is set to be carried out in two phases.
The first phase is aimed at realizing a manufacturing capacity of 12,000 new energy heavy-duty trucks and 3,000 units of fuel cell and hydrogen systems per year. It is expected to start operation at the end of 2022 or in 2023.
Scheduled to be operational in 2024, the second-phase project targets an annual manufacturing capacity of 24,000 new energy heavy-duty trucks and 5,000 units of fuel cell systems and fuel cell stacks.
SAIC Hongyan takes charge of the construction of the new energy heavy-duty truck base. The base will have a data-powered factory that wildly uses AGV (automated guided vehicle)-enabled intelligent assembly lines, and is capable of full-process digital information management and flexible production.
Inner Mongolia Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd. was formally incorporated in Ordos at the end of August 2021 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd. (SHPT), a company under SAIC Motor engaging in producing fuel cell products. It will be responsible for the building of assembly lines for fuel cell and hydrogen systems and fuel cell stacks.
