The all-electric sedan model formally hit the market on Sept. 15. Coming with six trim levels, the P5 is priced between 157,900 yuan ($24,680) and 223,900 yuan ($35,000) after incentives. The scale car delivery will begin at the end of October, according to XPeng.
The automaker claimed the P5 as the world's first production model to employ auto-grade LiDAR technology. The two double-prism LiDAR units integrate 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 13 high-definition cameras and a high-precision positioning unit to allow 360-degree visual and LiDAR fusion perception of the road environment.
Based on different battery capacity (55.9kWh, 66.2kWh, and 71.4kWh), the P5 is available for NEDC-rated ranges of 460km, 550km, and 600km. Some variants are equipped with a high-energy density battery of 180Wh/kg. Besides, all trim levels come standard with a heat pump air-conditioner, which helps improve overall driving range in winter by around 15%.
Although the P5 went on sale in mid-Sept., its insurance registrations were for the first time recorded by the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) in August. As of Sept., the P5 cumulative registrations amounted to 314 units, 241 units of which were recorded last month.
