NIO to co-build green ecosystem with Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- NIO is about to offer its electric vehicles and EV charging facilities to Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, as part of a plan to co-build the green ecosystem with the park, the EV startup announced on Dec. 2.

Located in the mountainous area of central Hainan Island, the 4,400-square-km Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park boasts one of the most concentrated, best preserved and largest contiguous tropical rainforests in China, and the only habitat of Hainan gibbons, which is a critically endangered species that numbers just 35 now.

According to NIO, the Hainan-based green massif boasts five national nature reserves and four provincial reserves that are home to 3,653 species of wild vascular plants and 540 species of vertebrates. It features a biodiversity index of up to 6.28, which is comparable to the Amazon rainforest.

Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park was selected as one of China's first national parks in late October, epitomizing the country’s achievements in protecting biodiversity.

Additionally, NIO unveiled the plan in May the decision to jointly build a green island with Sansha city, Hainan province, intending to boost the development of clean energy for the Xisha Islands.
