NIO said to launch second sedan model ET5 on NIO Day 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- NIO announced on Tuesday it will officially launch an all-new model at the forthcoming NIO Day, which is in all likelihood the startup's second sedan model named ET5.

According to earlier local reports, the ET5 will be positioned below NIO's first sedan ET7. The brand-new model is likely to ride on NIO’s NT2.0 platform, which makes the ET5 a mid-sized sedan that features a length of 4,800 to 4,900mm and a wheelbase spans 2,800 to 2,900mm.

The ET5 will reportedly adopt NIO's second-generation digital cockpit technology that supports 5G network, V2X (vehicle-to-everything), WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, UWB (ultra-wideband), and other connected and communications technologies.

The teaser image posted on NIO's WeChat account only shows that the yet-to-be-launched model carries a light strip that runs across the front. Spy photos of the possible NIO ET5 have already been leaked on the web, and they indicate that the ET5 may be a sleek fastback sedan proportionally similar to the ET7.

Local media outlets said that the ET5 will be armed with NIO's second-generation electric drive system, newest NAD (NIO Autonomous Driving) system, and feature the battery swappable capability. However, it is still ambiguous whether NIO will equip the ET5 with the LiDAR system or not.
