Sunwoda to build 30GWh power, energy storage battery production base in Zaozhuang

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese EV power battery manufacturer Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery Co., Ltd. (called “Sunwoda EV Battery” for short) will set up a subsidiary responsible for the building of a power battery and energy storage battery manufacturing base with an annual capacity of 30GWh in Zaozhuang city, Shandong province, the company’s parent Sunwoda Electronic Co Ltd. announced on Dec. 14.

According to the announcement, Sunwoda EV Battery has struck a deal with the Management Committee of Zaozhuang High-tech Industrial Development Zone to invest about 20 billion yuan ($3.143 billion) in building 30GWh power battery and energy storage battery assembly lines, as well as relevant supporting facilities. The investment includes around 15 billion yuan ($2.357 billion) worth of fixed assets.

Sunwoda Electronic Co Ltd. said building the manufacturing base will help the company boost the operation and development of power battery and energy storage battery businesses, and further improve Sunwoda's deployment for new energy industrial chain. All in all, this project is in line with Sunwoda's development strategy and demands for future new energy business development and market expansion.

Sunwoda has obtained battery supply contracts from OEMs including Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Dongfeng Motor Corporation Passenger Vehicle Company, GAC Group, Geely Auto, and SAIC-GM-Wuling so far this year. Besides, it also formed cooperation with Nissan Motor, eGT, and Volvo on HEV-used batteries.

For the first eleven months, Sunwoda recorded 1.64GWh of power battery installed capacity, accounting for 1.3% of China's total volume and ranking tenth among Chinese power battery makers, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).
