Bosch breaks ground on new base for Chongqing-based hydrogen powertrain JV

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Bosch Powertrain Solutions China announced on Dec. 22 it has broken ground on a new facility for Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems (Chongqing) Co.,Ltd. in Chongqing, another significant base to Bosch's electrification strategy.

According to the corporate data platform Tianyancha, Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems (Chongqing) Co.,Ltd. is a 60/40 joint venture between Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. and QingLing Motors (Group) Co., Ltd., which is wholly-owned by the Chongqing State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

Bosch forecasts that fuel cell vehicles will account for around one eighth of the world's annual new commercial vehicle registrations in 2030. To expedite the industrialization progress of hydrogen power in China, Bosch decided to build the aforesaid factory in Chongqing, which will cover an area of about 360 mu (240,000 square meters) in total and is expected to start operation at the end of May 2023.

The new facility is designed to build as a multifunctional center capable of R&D, testing, manufacturing, as well as sales management. It is expected to help Chongqing boost the promotion of hydrogen powertrain.

Based on Bosch's advantage in the R&D and production of hydrogen powertrain and market demands, Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems (Chongqing) Co.,Ltd. will put works into offering clients economy and intelligent hydrogen powertrain solutions with high environmental adaptability and safety.

In September 2021, the hydrogen-fueled vehicles armed with Bosch’s hydrogen power modules were put into pilot operation for trunk logistics service, the first-time case in China. Up until now, Bosch has produced and sold over 70 hydrogen modules.
