Dongfeng Honda to build new EV plant with 120,000-unit capacity at early stage
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Dongfeng Honda, a 50/50 joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Group and Honda Motor Company, on Jan. 5 signed an investment agreement with local authority of Wuhan Economic & Technological development Zone for construction of a new electric vehicle (EV) plant.

According to a statement of Honda Motor (China) Co.,Ltd., Dongfeng Honda's new EV plant is situated at Wuhan Economic & Technological development Zone and will cover an area of 630,000 square meters. It is scheduled to commence production in 2024 with an annual production capacity of 120,000 EVs at an early stage.
Dongfeng Honda wishes to build the new factory into a highly efficient and intelligent next-generation EV plant capable of sustainable development. Aside from a complete set of facilities for EV production, including stamping, welding, assembly lines and vehicle inspection system, the new plant will introduce automation technologies in the process like welding and assembly.
The yet-to-be-built factory will make contribution to achieving the carbon neutrality by using renewable energy source like solar power. The new plant will adopt measures including water recycling for the sake of resource conservation and strive to minimize the emissions of such air pollutants as VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
Dongfeng Honda currently features a total production capacity of 720,000 vehicles per year. For the first eleven months of 2021, its retail sales reached 705,603 units, according to Honda Motor (China) Co.,Ltd.'s data.
