China has 2.617 million EV charging piles by end of 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- By the end of Dec. 2021, there were 2.617 million charging piles deployed across China, up 70.1% from the same period of last year, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA).

For the year of 2021, a total of 936,000 charging piles (+193%) were newly built in China, including 340,000 public piles (+89.9% YoY) and 597,000 private ones (+323.9% YoY).

The number of public charging piles in the country added up to 1.147 million by the end of Dec. 2021, including 470,000 DC piles, 677,000 AC piles, and 589 DC-AC integrated charging piles, the EVCIPA said after compiling the data reported by members of the alliance.

There were around 28,300 public charging poles newly deployed per month on average for the year of 2021.

As of Dec. 2021, a total of 74,700 charging stations have been deployed in China, rising from 71,500 launched by the end of Nov. In terms of the volume of charging stations, the top five provinces or direct-administered municipalities were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Beijing, accounting for around 48% of the country's total volume.

Regarding the amount of charging stations by Dec. 2021, the top three operators were still TELD, State Grid, and Star Charge. According to the EVCIPA's data, EV manufacturers, NIO and Tesla, had deployed 554 and 364 charging stations respectively by December.

As of Dec. 2021, China had a total of 1,298 battery swap stations, 106 of which were newly built last month. By the volume of battery swap stations, the top three provinces or direct-administered municipalities in China were Beijing, Guangdong and Zhejiang.

The top three battery swap station operators in China were still NIO (789), Aulton (402), and Hangzhou First Technology (107) in terms of the station number by December.
