Tesla launches 22 supercharging stations in Chinese mainland in Dec. 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Tesla built 22 supercharging stations and 128 Superchargers in 21 cities and counties in Chinese Mainland, including Qingdao, Beijing, Anqing, Lu'an, Suzhou, Zhenjiang, and Zhuhai, the company recently announced.

By the end of Dec. 201, Tesla had deployed over 1,000 supercharging stations and more than 8,000 Superchargers across Chinese Mainland. The company said its supercharging network has covered all provincial capitals and municipalities directly under the central government, and reached all prefecture-level cities of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hebei, Shandong, Guangdong, and Guizhou provinces.

Besides, the U.S. EV manufacturer had seen the volume of destination charging stations and destination charging pillars in China exceed 700 and 1,800 respectively as of Dec. 2021.

The charging network grew in sync with EV sales volume. The EV manufacturer astonished the automotive industry by selling 70,847 China-made vehicles in December 2021, 70,602 units of which were sold in China, according to the data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

As for full-year performance, Tesla's Gigafactory Shanghai delivered 484,130 vehicles in 2021, representing a precipitous hike of 235% year on year and accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's global deliveries, according to the company's press release.

Quite a few EV makers placed strong emphasis on building self-owned charging network. For instance, NIO, one of Chinese Tesla-wannabes, said it newly built 505 supercharging stations, 2,598 supercharging poles, 359 destination charging stations, and 605 battery swap stations in 2021; ZEEKR, the nascent premium EV brand of Geely Auto, had seen its self-built stations tap 14 cities in China as of Dec. 2021.
