GAC AION doubles NEV plant’s production capacity
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC AION, a NEV-dedicated subsidiary wholly owned by GAC Group, on Feb. 18 announced the completion of the production capacity expansion project for its Guangzhou-based vehicle plant.
The automaker said it took GAC AION only 15 days to finish the project.

Starting production in April 2019, GAC AION's current plant features an annual production capacity of 100,000 NEVs initially. By the end of 2021, the plant hit a capacity utilization rate of over 140%. The latest milestone indicates its yearly capacity has doubled to 200,000 units.
To achieve a high level of intelligence, GAC AION's plant uses the LEGO-type pre-assembly and independent assembly facilities to increase the vehicle assembly efficiency by 40%. Moreover, the big-data-enabled virtual simulation tool is also adopted to greatly quicken the debugging procedure.
Boasting independent digital decision-making, the plant utilizes source data classification and distributed edge servers to enhance the production efficiency by 45%.
Moreover, the plant also features an innovative color-changing system that can shorten the time for color changing to only 45 minutes from 7 days and supports up to 25 colors of customization.
GAC AION plans to build its second car manufacturing plant with a designed capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. This proposal was approved by GAC Group's board of directors last month.
According to GAC Group's statement, construction of the new plant is set to be completed in December 2022.
