GAC AION sees vehicles sales in Feb. 2022 soar 163% YoY

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC AION, the new energy vehicle (NEV)-dedicated arm of GAC Group, announced its vehicle sales reached 8,526 units in February 2022, surging 163% from the previous year, while tumbling 46.8% from the previous month mainly due to the Spring Festival holiday.

The year-on-year sales growth should owe much to the automaker's expanding product lineup. At the Auto Guangzhou 2021, GAC AION launched the AION LX PLUS, which boasts the use of the sponge-silicon-anode-based battery and a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,008km. The model officially hit the market in January with four trim levels.

With the advent of the AION X PLUS, GAC AION's products have covered such segments as the small-sized sedan, the compact sedan, as well as the mid-sized SUV.

Besides, the 2022 AION S PLUS went on sale in January this year with its four variants priced from 153,800 yuan ($24,360) to 179,800 yuan ($28,480).

GAC AION is also vigorously ramping up its production capacity to support rapid sales growth. On Feb. 18, the automaker announced the completion of the capacity expansion project for its Guangzhou-based vehicle plant, whose production capacity has doubled to 200,000 vehicles per year.

GAC Group's board of directors approved a proposal last year for the construction of its second car manufacturing plant with a designed annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. Building works are scheduled to be completed in December 2022.
