Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The Chinese government is aiming to put around 50,000 fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) on the roads by 2025, according to a document jointly issued by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and National Energy Administration on March 23.

The document is made as the planning for the development of China's hydrogen industry from 2021 to 2035. Per the planning, China wishes to build a sound policy environment for the hydrogen industry development and basically grasp relevant core technologies and hydrogen-making techniques by 2025 with a complete supply chain and industrial system taking shape.

Apart from the aforesaid goal for FCV promotion, China expects the outputs of hydrogen produced from renewable resources to reach 100,000 to 200,000 tonnes per year by 2025, which can result in the reduction of 1 to 2 million tonnes a year of carbon dioxide emissions.

By 2030, the country is ambitious to form rigorous systems for hydrogen industrial technology innovation, clean-energy-enabled hydrogen production and hydrogen supply, and achieve the mass application of hydrogen manufacturing based on renewable resources.

When it comes to 2035, a complete hydrogen industrial system will be formed and a hydrogen application ecosystem that covers multiple areas like transportation, energy storage, and industry will be built in China. The proportion of the hydrogen made from renewable resources in the terminal energy consumption will be significantly enhanced then.
