According to the automaker, the C385 is built on its all-new electrical platform, the EPA1, with three powertrain options, including battery-electric, range extended, and hydrogen fuel-cell-electric. The C385 will be the first Chinese-branded mass-produced hydrogen-fuel-cell sedan.
Specifically, the battery-electric trim offers a CLTC range of 700km, with a maximum power of 190kW. The range extended trim allows a battery-only CLTC range of 200km, and a combined range of 1,200km. Meanwhile, the hydrogen-electric trim also features a combined range of 700km.
The model is the first production model under Changan Auto’s newly founded Shenlan EV brand, and will be on the market in the second half of 2022.
On the other hand, Changan Auto has spent half a decade to develop the EPA1 platform. The platform is compatible with three power sources and various recharging modes.
Notably, Changan Auto said that the platform solved the torque responsive issue regarding power performance and comfort. To illustrate, the EPA1 platform is able to minimize the lag when stepping on or releasing the gas petals. Additionally, the automaker has optimized the update speed on the OTA function to no longer than three minutes. The cockpit and software are intentionally separated to eliminate operational hazards caused by update failures.
