GAC AION posts 113% YoY surge in Jan.-Apr. sales

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC AION, the NEV-dedicated arm of GAC Group, sold 10,212 new vehicles in April 2022, representing a 49.74% month-on-month plunge due to the impact of the coronavirus resurgence on the supply chain and production, the company said earlier this week. However, compared to the year-ago period, the NEV maker still scored a 23% growth.

For the first four months of the year, GAC AION's auto sales zoomed up 113% from a year earlier to 55,086 units.

The blooming sales growth in year-to-date sales should owe much to the rapid expansion and upgrades of its product lineup. Last year, it launched three new models—the AION Y, the AION S Plus, and the AION V Plus— to perfect its layouts in the core NEV sectors featuring a price range of 100,000 yuan ($15,125) to 350,000 yuan ($52,940).

At the Auto Guangzhou 2021, GAC AION launched the AION LX Plus, which boasts the use of the sponge-silicon-anode-based battery and a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,008km. The model officially hit the market in January with four trim levels.

Besides, the 2022 AION S Plus went on sale in January this year. Compared to the former version, the refreshed one comes with fewer trim levels, but features greater intelligence performance.

Additionally, GAC AION also made significant headways in power network construction. On April 21, the automaker announced the launch of its first super charging & battery swap station, which is located in Guangzhou. The station is able to exchange an electric car battery in 2.5 minutes and also offers the function of an automated fast charging process.

GAC AION plans to deploy 220 super charging & battery swap stations this year, and increase the number to 1,000 by 2025.
