BBAC Battery Plant sees new-generation China-made battery roll off line

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 23, the new-generation locally-produced Mercedes-Benz battery officially rolled off the assembly line at the battery plant of Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. (BBAC), paving the way for the volume production of a new China-made Mercedez-EQ model, the all-electric EQE, according to BBAC's press release.

The BBAC Battery Plant started production in 2019. It is the first battery factory of Mercedes-Benz Group outside Germany. The Mercedes-Benz global battery manufacturing network currently consists of factories at seven locations on three continents- in China, the US, Thailand, Poland, and Germany.

The battery production line at the Beijing-based factory is tailored for the new-generation batteries, which meet Mercedes-Benz’s global uniform standards in terms of battery safety, durability and sustainability. The batteries will be integrated into the intelligent thermal management system of the EQE.

By virtue of big data, cloud computing, and other technologies, the production line at BBAC Battery Plant features digital and flexible assembly capability, with key processes achieving full automation. Besides, to ensure high-quality production, the entire production process can be analyzed, forecasted, traced, and recorded.

The expansion of BBAC’s battery lineup owes much to the forward-looking strategic planning made by both BAIC Group and Mercedes-Benz Group. As early as 2017, the two parent companies inked a framework agreement to lay out the new energy vehicle development at BBAC. In the same year, they broke ground on the BBAC Battery Plant. In 2019, BBAC saw its first locally-built all-electric luxury model (the EQC) and first battery product roll off the production line. In 2021, the EQB and EQA full-electric SUV models were put into production. The all-new EQE is set to come off line in the near future.
