CATL accounts for 45.85% of China’s power battery installed capacity in May 2022

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In May 2022, China's power battery outputs reached 35.6GWh, soaring 157.9% year on year, while also jumping 22.8% month on month, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).

Of the power batteries produced last month, 16.3GWh and 19.2GWh were ternary-lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate (“LFP”) batteries, up 225.7% and 119.4% from the year-ago period respectively.

For the first five months of 2022, there was a total of 165.1 GWh power batteries produced in China, representing a 177.5% year-on-year spike. The year-to-date outputs of ternary-lithium batteries and LFP batteries reached 64.6GWh (+119% YoY) and 100.3GWh (+235.2% YoY) respectively.

Data by the CAPBIIA show that the country's power battery installed capacity amounted to 18.6GWh in May, zooming up 90.3% from the previous year, while also leaping 39.9% from the previous month.

The cumulative installed capacity in the Jan.-May period shot up 100.8% year over year to 83.1GWh. Notably, the year-to-date capacity of LFP batteries rocketed 186.1% over the year-ago period to 49GWh.

Regarding the May power battery installed capacity, the top 5 players were the same as that of the previous month, accounting for 84.48% of the country's total capacity. CATL still ranked highest by share of 45.85%, 7.57 percentage points more than that of April. BYD was still the runner-up with around 97% of its capacity contributed by LFP batteries.

Compared to the previous month, SVOLT dropped two spots to the eighth with a May installed capacity of 0.37GWh.

With regard to the Jan.-May power battery installed capacity, the top 10 battery makers made up 94.41% of the country's total volume. Of them, CATL, BYD, and CALB still topped others by holding up to 77.72% market share in total.
