Ningbo Shanshan breaks ground on battery anode material base in Shanghai

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese lithium battery materials supplier Ningbo Shanshan Co., Ltd. (Shanshan) celebrated on June 16 the ground-breaking for its anode base in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area, the company announced via its WeChat account.

According to Shanshan, an R&D building, three multi-storied factories, warehouses, and other ancillary facilities will be built under the new project. Upon completion of all construction works, the Lin-gang base will serve as the R&D headquarters of Shanshan Technology, a subsidiary of Shanshan.

The Lin-gang base will have a battery anode R&D institute equipped with a national-level postdoctoral workstation and a professional team with nearly 100 R&D staff members. It will focus on the R&D and production of high-end fast-charging power battery anode materials, expecting to lower costs and improve product performance by using new manufacturing technologies and facilities.

Shanshan said earlier this week BASF Shanshan, its joint venture with German chemical producer BASF, is expanding the production capacity at its factories in Changsha of Hunan province and Shizuishan of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, aiming to improve its total production capacity of cathode active material (“CAM”) to 100,000 tonnes per year.

The first production lines under BASF Shanshan's capacity expansion project will start operation in the fourth quarter of 2022.
