NIO announces completion of 10 million battery swaps

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- NIO provided its 10 millionth battery swap on July 4, 2022, the EV startup announced via its WeChat account.

The milestone took place at a NIO Power Swap station in Shanghai Hongqiao VEG Creative Park with an ES8’s battery exchanged for a fully charged one.

According to data released by NIO, it took the automaker 29 months to complete its first 1 million battery swaps, and only 1 month to climb from the 9 to the 10 millionths.

To date, 303 NIO users have never charged their vehicles since the car delivery and only used NIO's battery swap service, the company said.

Up until now, a NIO battery swap station can offer over 30,000 battery swaps per day on average, indicating that there is a vehicle leaving one of NIO's battery swap stations with a new fully charged battery every 2.8 seconds averagely.

NIO also said the 10 million battery swaps can help users drive over 1.98 billion kilometers, and reduce carbon emissions of around 130,327.5 tonnes. 

What's more, NIO has provided its battery upgrade service for more than 17,000 users so far.

The company also revealed that its total number of battery swapping stations would soon reach 1,000.
