Toyota Motor to launch 111 MIRAI FCVs into China pilot operation

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Toyota Motor plans to roll out over 100 fuel cell vehicles (FCV) at one go to boost its FCV deployment in China.

According to a WeChat post released on Sept. 26, GAC Toyota will put a total of 111MIRAI FCVs into a massive pilot operation of hydrogen-powered vehicles for short-term rental, ride-hailing services, and fix-route tourism, etc. in such cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Foshan.

Besides, the Japanese automaker will actively push ahead with the cooperation with local governments and hydrogen enterprises on the planning and construction of 70MPa hydrogen-filling stations.

Toyota China plans to introduce the second-generation MIRAI in China as an imported model at the end of 2022. With a limited supply of 50 units for the first batch, the imported FCV model will be sold via GAC Toyota’s sales channel, priced between 748,000 yuan and 751,000 yuan ($104,540-$104,960).

GAC Toyota revealed that the first batch of the 2nd-generation MIRAIs will be delivered to consumers through its authorized dealerships in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Foshan.

It is noteworthy that Toyota's hydrogen-powered MIRAI cars and Coaster vans grabbed attention of many viewers at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games as the official vehicles to ferry athletes and staff.
