In the full year of 2022, the cumulative wholesale volume of China-made Tesla vehicles added up to 710,865 vehicles, 271,095 units of which were sold in auto markets outside of China. Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory’s annual export volume accounted for roughly 38.14% of its total wholesale volume in the past year.

Judging from the overall monthly retail volume of NEPVs in China, Tesla nabbed 6.6% of the local market in December 2022, which slipped 8.3 percentage points year over year. In the past month, China’s locally-owned brands accounted for an impressive 70.6% of the entire NEPV retail volume, increasing 11.4 percentage points from the previous year. The market share of new energy vehicle startups dipped 4.5 percentage points from the earlier year to 13.5%.

In general, China's NEPV wholesale volume continued to reach for new highs in December. As the same as a month ago, in December, there were still 14 automakers who sold over 10,000 NEPVs through wholesale channels, and they accounted for 82.1% of the entire local NEPV wholesales record.

To be specific, the aforesaid 14 automakers were BYD (234,598 NEPVs), , SAIC-GM-Wuling (85,632 NEPVs), Tesla (55,796 NEPVs), Geely (44,550 NEPVs), Changan Automobile (39,185 NEPVs), SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle (30,685 NEPVs), GAC AION (30,007 NEPVs), Li Auto (21,233 NEPVs), NIO (15,815 NEPVs), Dongfeng eGT (11,740 NEPVs), Chery Auto (12,506 NEPVs), XPeng (11,292 NEPVs), Great Wall Motor (10,999 NEPVs), and SERES (10,180 NEPVs).

In 2022, NEPVs secured 27.6% of China's domestic PV sales, up 12.6 percentage points from 2021. The CPCA believes that the number stands to increase rapidly in the future. According to the association's projections, in 2023, China's sales volume of NEPVs will come around to 8.5 million units, which represented 36% share of the total PV market.
