Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The Qilin battery, the battery using CATL's third-generation CTP (cell-to-pack) technology, is expected for volume production in the first quarter of 2023, CATL revealed at the investor Q&A platform of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the battery giant noted it is striving to realize the commercialization of its sodium-ion batteries in 2023.

Launched on June 23, 2022, the Qilin battery features a volume utilization efficiency of 72%, capable of delivering a range of over 1,000km. It can increase the energy density to 255Wh/kg for ternary battery systems, and 160Wh/kg for LFP battery systems.

In 2019, CATL launched the world's first module-less battery pack, CTP, taking the lead in achieving a volume utilization efficiency of over 50%. The "Qilin" embodies the company's redefinition of battery structure design over the CTP battery pack.

According to CATL, in the Qilin battery, the ingenious bottom sharing design allows the smart arrangement of various components including structural protection, high-voltage connection and a protective vent for thermal runaway, further increasing the battery capacity by 6%. Meanwhile, the CTP 3.0 battery satisfies the criteria of the battery safety tests required by national standards such as the bollard test.

On August 27 last year, CATL and ZEEKR jointly announced ZEEKR as the first car brand to be powered by mass-produced Qilin batteries. The ZEEKR 009 will be the world's first car with the Qilin battery inside, and the ZEEKR 001 will be the world's first model equipped with Qilin batteries of 1,000 km range.

On the same day, CATL also claimed that Qilin batteries would power new AITO models of SERES Auto.
