SERES 5 SUV powered by Ganfeng Lithium’s semi-solid-state battery to hit market in 2023
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Feb. 7, Ganfeng Lithium, one of the world’s leading producers of battery-grade lithium, announced that the SERES 5 all-electric SUV, which is equipped with its ternary solid-liquid mixed lithium ion battery, is scheduled to hit the market this year, indicating a new breakthrough it has made in the field of solid-state battery.

The said battery is the first-generation solid-state battery in-house developed by Ganfeng Lithium. It is actually a semi-solid-state battery, with some materials being the same as liquid lithium ion batteries. However, based on advanced material systems and solid-state technology, the energy density of the battery has been significantly improved to 260Wh/kg.
It is reported that Ganfeng Lithium has already started the construction of 4GWh solid-state battery production capacity. Its 20GWh new-type lithium battery technology industrial park in Chongqing is also under construction.
Besides, the company’s board of directors on Jan. 18 approved the proposal to build a headquarters project for new-type lithium ion batteries and energy storage systems in Dongguan city, Guangdong province, with a total of 5 billion yuan ($736.573 million) to be poured.
The facilities to be constructed in Dongguan will encompass the R&D centers and production lines for LFP batteries, semi-solid-state cells, light power batteries, outdoor portable power supply, outdoor energy storage system, as well as the energy storage systems for industrial and commercial uses, featuring an expected yearly production capacity of 10GWh.
