Car and City: Tesla sees Shanghai-made vehicle registrations in China rise YoY, MoM in Feb. 2023
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In the second month of 2023, a total of 34,064 China-made Tesla-branded vehicles were registered across the Chinese mainland, representing a 40.78% spike compared to the previous year and a 25.2% jump from the previous month, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute ("GARI").
Regarding the monthly registrations of China-made new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Feb. 2023, Tesla was credited the runner-up among all auto brands in China.
Both the Shanghai-made Model 3 and Model Y recorded a two-digit year-on-year growth in their Feb. 2023 registrations.
Compared with the previous month, the Model 3 faced a 35.5% decline in Feb. registration volume, but the Model Y boasted a 79.36% spike.
Among all locally-built NEV models sold in China, the Model Y and the Model 3 ranked 2nd and 12th by Feb. 2023 registrations, respectively.
With regard to regional distribution in Feb. 2023, Shanghai topped other cities in China in terms of the monthly registrations of the made-in-China Model 3s, while Hangzhou was the other one had over 600 Model 3s registered last month.
As for the Feb. registrations of the homemade Model Y, there were four cities with over 1,000 units registered each. Of those, Shanghai was still the champion with a registration volume of 2,132 Models Ys.
For the first two months of 2023, Tesla’s China-made vehicle registrations totaled 61,271 units in the world’s largest auto market, leaping 39.87% from a year ago.
