Li Auto names first BEV model ‘MEGA’

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 17th, during Li Auto’s first Family Technology Day, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker officially unveiled its first pure electric vehicle, which is also its flagship MPV, named MEGA.

The company announced that the new model will be launched by the end of this year and stated its ambition to make it become the best-selling model among all passenger cars priced above 500,000 yuan.

With the introduction of the MEGA model, along with the already available the L family models (L7, L8, and L9), Li Auto is poised to achieve a dual focus on "extended range" and "pure electric" in the field of NEVs.

Moreover, at the event, the 400,000th vehicle manufactured by Li Auto rolled off the assembly line.

The MEGA is classified as a full-size MPV with an expected length of over 5.3 meters, a width of around 2 meters, and an estimated height of 1.8-1.9 meters. In terms of size, it is significantly larger than the well-known the Buick GL8, the Toyota Alphard, the DENZA D9, as well as the ZEEKR 009.

According to the released images, the new MPV's exterior design appears highly futuristic, deviating from the conventional MPV style characterized by boxy shapes. The front end of the vehicle boasts sleek lines, seamlessly blending the hood and A-pillars. The most attention-grabbing point of the side profile is its distinctive contour, with its highest point likely located near the B-pillar. The lines then visibly slope downward towards the C and D-pillars, while the rear of the car presents a slender appearance.

At the Auto Shanghai 2023 in April this year, Li Auto announced its comprehensive "dual-energy strategy", meaning it won't abandon range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) while shifting to battery electric vehicles (BEVs). In terms of electric power, the company introduced an 800V ultra-fast charging pure electric solution, marking a new stage in its pursuit of both "extended-range electric" and "high-voltage pure electric" technologies.

By 2025, Li Auto aims to establish a product lineup consisting of "1 flagship model + 5 REEV models + 5 high-voltage BEVs", targeting the market above 200,000 yuan and fully catering to the needs of family users. Additionally, the flagship model, whose name has been unveiled, will be the world's first production model equipped with the 5C Qilin battery, a result of Li Auto's collaboration with CATL.
