China’s power batteries installed capacity in H1 2023 leaps 38.1% YoY

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In June, China's production volume of power batteries reached a total of 60.1GWh, marking a year-on-year spike of 45.7% and a month-on-month increase of 6.3%, according to data by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).

Among them, the production of ternary-lithium batteries amounted to 17.7GWh in June, accounting for 29.4% of the total power battery production, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.2% and a month-on-month decrease of 4.9%. The production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries reached 42.2GWh, accounting for 70.3% of the total power battery output, showing a significant year-on-year surge of 86.3% and a month-on-month increase of 11.7%.

During the period from January to June of this year, China's cumulative production of power batteries reached 293.6GWh, with a cumulative year-on-year growth of 36.8%. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 99.6GWh of the total Jan.-Jun. production, showing a year-on-year rise of 12.6%. The year-to-date production of LFP batteries reached 193.5GWh, marking a year-on-year hike of 53.8%.

In June, the total sales of power batteries in China amounted to 52.2GWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.9%. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 18.4GWh of the total sales, representing a year-on-year drop of 16.8%. The sales of LFP batteries reached 33.7GWh, jumping 33.0% from a year ago.

For the first half of this year, the cumulative sales of power batteries in China reached 256.5GWh, with a year-on-year growth of 17.5%. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 99.8GWh of the total sales, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 10.9%. The sales of LFP batteries reached 156.3GWh, displaying a year-on-year jump of 22.0%.

In June, power battery companies in China exported a total of 10.0GWh batteries. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 6.6GWh of the total exports, while the exports of LFP batteries reached 3.3GWh.

For the first six months of this year, power battery companies in China exported a total of 56.7GWh batteries. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 39.4GWh of the total exports, while the exports of LFP batteries amounted to 17.2GWh.

In June, the installation volume of power batteries in complete vehicles in China reached 32.9GWh, showing a year-on-year increase of 21.8% and a month-on-month increase of 16.5%. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 10.1GWh of the total installation volume, representing a year-on-year decrease of 13% and a month-on-month increase of 11.6%. The installation volume of LFP batteries reached 22.7GWh, indicating a year-on-year spike of 47.5% and a month-on-month growth of 18.7%.

From January to June of this year, there were 152.1GWh power batteries installed onto complete vehicles in China, showing a year-on-year growth of 38.1%. Ternary-lithium batteries accounted for 48.0GWh of the total installation volume, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 5.2%. The installation volume of LFP batteries reached 103.9GWh, showing a year-on-year leap of 61.5%.

In June, a total of 43 power battery companies in China saw their batteries installed onto new energy vehicles, an increase of 5 compared to the same period last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery companies accounted for 81.3%, 89.5%, and 97.2% of the total installation, with a volume of 26.8GWh, 29.5GWh, and 32.0GWh, respectively.

For the first two quarters, a total of 48 power battery companies in China had their batteries installed onto complete vehicles, an increase of 3 compared to the same period last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery companies accounted for 81.5%, 89.8%, and 97.5% of the total installation, with a volume of 124.0GWh, 136.7GWh, and 148.4GWh, respectively.
