The collaboration aims to accelerate the commercialization of advanced material solutions, supporting the development of more efficient and sustainable urban air mobility, said Covestro.

Under the agreement, Covestro and GOVY will cooperate in several key areas:

● Development of innovative glass-like exterior components (e.g., polycarbonate windows) to reduce the weight of aircraft while ensuring high performance and safety standards.

● Exploration of smart, energy-efficient lighting system materials tailored to the unique needs of aircraft, and the study of high-performance materials for seamless integration of intelligent systems and components.

● Focus on low-carbon solutions, using materials that incorporate recycled and bio-based content to reduce the aircraft's carbon emissions over its lifecycle.

This partnership, which also involves eight other collaborators from fields such as artificial intelligence, low-altitude air navigation, and carbon fiber composites, aims to drive the ambitious development of eVTOL aircrafts. Covestro will leverage its expertise in high-performance materials and sustainable solutions to help accelerate the next generation of eVTOL aircrafts.

During the signing ceremony, an eVTOL aircraft demonstration model, capable of traveling 200 kilometers in 40 minutes, was unveiled. The prototype features a composite wing design, offering both efficient forward flight capability and flexible vertical take-off and landing. The product is scheduled to begin pre-orders in 2025, marking the gradual commercialization of low-altitude urban air mobility.
