Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Magna announced on 19 November that it will further expand its presence in China with a new manufacturing facility in the Jiujiang Economic Development Zone of Wuhu, Anhui Province. The site will supply electric drive systems for Chery and is designed to support a broader customer base as the company deepens its role in China's fast-growing new energy vehicle industry.

With China's automotive sector accelerating its shift toward electrification, local production of EV technologies has become increasingly vital. Magna's decision to establish operations in Wuhu aligns closely with these market dynamics and reinforces the company's standing as a global innovator and leader in propulsion technologies.

Diba Ilunga, President of Magna Powertrain, said the investment highlights the company's commitment to supporting automakers' electrification strategies and advancing sustainable mobility. He noted that Wuhu offers a strong industrial base and a favorable environment for innovation, making it an ideal location to introduce Magna's leading electric drive technologies and strengthen collaboration with Chery and other partners.

The Wuhu facility will produce Magna's electric drive systems, which deliver smooth, high-performance power delivery. Their scalable architecture allows them to be integrated across a wide range of battery-electric models.

These technologies are designed to help automakers meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations while expanding their portfolios of efficient, high-performance EVs. The systems also enhance vehicle dynamics, contributing to a more refined and responsive driving experience.

The new plant, which covers roughly 15,000 square meters under a leasing model, is expected to create about 200 jobs once full production begins.

Magna has been operating in China for more than two decades and continues to scale its local business. The company generated US$5.6 billion in China sales in 2024, with around 60% coming from domestic OEMs—an indication of its strong localization capabilities and deepening integration with China's automotive ecosystem.
