GAC AION unveils all-electric supercar starting at 1.286 million yuan

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC AION, the new energy vehicle (NEV) arm of GAC Group, on Sept. 15 released its fire new logo, dubbed “AI Shen Jian (AI Magic Arrow)”, indicating that it has ushered in a new development era.

According to the company’s introduction, the all-new logo is inspired by the brand's English name “AION”. It is an artistic combination of the brand name's first two letters—“A” and “I”, rendering a visual effect of a soaring arrow, which stands for a robust development of AI technologies. Besides, “AI” is also the Chinese pinyin of “love”, embodying a romantic blessing to the world.

At the launch ceremony, the NEV maker also launched a new high-end product series: Hyper. In the future, all Hyper models will bear AION's freshly launched logo, covering such segments as the supercar, coupe, SUV, and MPV.

The first model under the new EV series, named Hyper SSR, made its debut at the same time. Positioned as an all-electric supercar, the model comes with a standard version and an Ultimate version, which are priced at 1.286 million yuan and 1.686 million yuan ($183,450-$240,510), respectively.

The interior of this Chinese supercar features an 8.8-inch dashboard and a 14.6-inch central infotainment system. GAC AION says that it’ll also have a “lever-type electronic shift mechanism”.

The Ultimate trim can do 0-100km/h acceleration in only 1.9 seconds.

According to GAC AION, the company has started building a production line for the Hyper SSR, which is expected for delivery in October next year.
