Pony.ai, SAIC AI LAB unveil L4 driverless concept vehicle

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On September 27, Pony.ai announced the cooperation with SAIC Motor’s AI LAB (SAIC AI LAB) on the autonomous driving technology R&D and self-driving vehicle service operations.

Under the cooperation framework, both parties will integrate their advantageous resources to jointly promote the R&D of fully autonomous vehicles. In fact, the duo has jointly created a driverless concept vehicle based on SAIC Motor’s Marvel-R model, which was unveiled today at an event in Shanghai Auto Expo Park, offering unmanned shuttle service for guests.

“Shanghai Driverless Demo Zone”, where the event was held, is a part of the National Intelligent Vehicle Pilot in Shanghai. The planned driverless demo zone will include 3.8-km semi-closed roads at the Shanghai Auto Expo Park. The first 1.2 kilometers have already been constructed and are in use, with the remaining 2.6 kilometers expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The new collaborative self-driving concept car is equipped with the latest generation of L4 driverless solutions. It adopts a new-generation smart cabin design with auto-grade sensors and a foldable steering wheel. The vehicle is equipped with 17 sensors that complement each other in the field of view, creating redundancy while eliminating blind spots. The visual range of the vehicle covers 360 degrees and 200 meters.

In the future, the duo will continue adhering to SAIC Motor and Pony.ai’s strategy of expanding their autonomous driving fleet size. Meanwhile, the partners will also work in vehicle chassis, smart cockpit, HMI, remote driving control, and other intelligent driving technology fields.
