Continental AG starts operation of super factory in China’s Changsha city

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Dec. 15, the world's leading automotive supplier Continental AG celebrated the opening of its super factory in Changsha city, the capital of China's Hunan province, indicating the group's resolution to further improve its manufacturing level.

As Continental AG's first 5G-enabled digital super factory in the world, the Changsha factory covers an area of roughly 80,000 square meters and a floorage of around 28,000 square meters, with over 500 million yuan ($71.802 million) planned to be poured in construction of workshops and infrastructures, and purchase of facilities.

The new factory will work on offering innovative solutions for user experience, such as large-sized liquid crystal display and HUD (head-up display).

"The operational Changsha factory will help us timely respond to Chinese consumers' demands, better serve local clients, and offer the market innovative human-machine interaction solutions, so as to lift driving comfort and safety," said Enno Tang, president of Continental AG's organization in China.

Located in the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, the new super factory features cutting-edge production technologies, such as SMT (surface-mount technology), display optical bonding, backlight assembly, as well as display packaging and testing. Besides, the factory is also powered by digital production technologies, including virtual process route planning, virtual device debugging, big data, AI, and intelligent maintenance.

There have been five production lines at the Changsha super factory, which is expected for operation in the first quarter of 2023, said the group. The factory will focus on producing such products related to smart cockpit as digital instrument panel, console-mounted display, display composed of several connected screens, as well as HUD.
