SAIC-GM unveils images of Ultium-based Buick Electra E5 SUV

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM) is about to launch the first Buick-branded production model built on the Ultium battery-electric vehicle (BEV) platform, named Electra E5, the joint venture announced on Dec. 19 with several photos unveiled at the same time.

Positioned as a five-seater SUV, the Buick Electra E5 measures 4,892mm long, 1,905mm wide, and 1,655mm tall, with a wheelbase that spans 2,954mm.

From the styling perspective, the Electra E5 will adopt Buick's new PURE Design language, which was first shown on the Electra-X Concept, and multiple elements to reveal its BEV essence.

At the front, the Buick Electra E5 features a reinterpreted flying wing design, the new tri-shield logo, a massive trapezoidal grille with numerous rhomboid concaves placed in a parametric pattern, aviation-inspired headlamps, as well as newly designed dual flying wing daytime running lamps.

As for the side profile, the model integrates clean lines and sculptural surfaces on the fenders and lower part of the doors, creating an image of constant motion even when still. The tinted chrome accents deliver an exceptional luxury and sporty touch.

The flying-wing taillight cluster stretching across the rear end accentuates the vehicle's width. Besides, a stop light echoes the new brand logo and the rear spoiler.

The Ultium platform will endow the Electra E5 with a multi-layered battery protection mechanism, a battery management system that can be connected via a wireless method, as well as an intelligent battery health monitoring system in contact with both the vehicle and cloud, said the automaker.

The Buick Electra E5 will be equipped with the all-new VCS (Virtual Cockpit System) and the all-new Super Cruise driver assist technology.
