Li Auto MEGA: Redefining Luxury in the EMPV Market
Li Auto, renowned for its Extended Range EVs — essentially hybrids — has made a bold entrance into the fully electric vehicle market with the Li MEGA.
The Li MEGA was launched in a single, fully loaded trim, emphasizing its status as the flagship of Li Auto's lineup. With a premium price tag of RMB 529,800, it’s clear that this vehicle is aimed at those who want the best of what electric MPVs have to offer.
A Unique Design Philosophy on a New Platform
The Li MEGA is a bold and unconventional design, built on an entirely new platform. Its styling, which has sparked many debates, is the result of a close collaboration between Li Auto’s Aerodynamics and Design teams. Their goal? To push the limits of what’s possible.
Aerodynamics played a crucial role in shaping the MEGA's unique appearance. With a drag coefficient of just 0.215 Cd, the Li MEGA is incredibly efficient for a vehicle of its size. To compare, the Porsche Taycan has a drag coefficient of 0.22 Cd, and the XPENG X9 comes in at 0.227 Cd.
When Design Meets Functionality
The front of the Li MEGA features bullet train-like design, highlighted by Li Auto’s Halo 2.0 daytime running lights. The smooth, steep rake from the nose to the roofline, which rises until the B-pillar before tapering down to the trunk, gives the car a sleek and futuristic look.
Flush windows and pillars, along with a boat-tail design that narrows towards the rear, all contribute to guiding airflow seamlessly over the vehicle before it meets the Aeroblade. The Aeroblade, a flat section at the rear of the MEGA, “cuts” through the air, reducing turbulence behind the car. This not only enhances efficiency but also creates a striking exterior aesthetic.
Despite its aerodynamic design, the Li MEGA doesn’t compromise on practicality. Even with the third row of seats in use, it offers 1,054 liters of cargo space—enough to accommodate four 28-inch suitcases and two carry-ons, outperforming the XPENG X9's 755 liters. Fold down the third-row seats, and you get a spacious 1,800 liters of cargo space, though slightly smaller than the X9's maximum of 2,544 liters.
Luxurious Interior and Advanced Technology
Step inside the Li MEGA, and you’re enveloped in luxury. High-quality Nappa leather adorns every surface, and the technology inside is just as impressive as the materials. A large, fully animated Heads-Up Display now includes a blind spot camera monitor, while the front features dual 15.8-inch 4th-Gen 3K OLED infotainment screens. There’s also a third, larger 17-inch screen in the rear, all equipped with Dolby Vision and powered by the new Snapdragon 8295 High Performance CPU.
The front passenger enjoys a Queen seat that can recline fully flat without moving backward, offering a perfect blend of comfort and convenience. The seat massage function has been upgraded from a 10-point to a 16-point SPA massage, adding additional points to the seat base.
The second-row seats are even more luxurious, with captain’s chairs offering 95 degrees of recline and 270-degree surround heating. This means the seat back, base, armrest, and calf rest are all heated, ensuring comfort in any weather.
Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the dual 50 W wireless chargers and 50 W USB charging ports in the second row. The first two rows also feature heat, ventilation, and massage functions, while the third row is equipped with heating. Additionally, the vehicle includes a fridge that can cool items between 0-7 degrees Celsius or warm them between 35-50 degrees Celsius.
To top it all off, the Li MEGA boasts a 21-speaker, 2,160 W Dolby Atmos spatial audio surround sound system, sourced from the same suppliers as Burmester, promising an exceptional auditory experience.
Spaciousness Meets Performance
At 5.3 meters long with a 3.3-meter wheelbase (without rear-wheels steering for some reason), the Li MEGA is a massive vehicle, offering interior space that’s hard to match. The second-row legroom rivals that of the BMW 7-Series long-wheelbase version, but the real star is the third row, which offers legroom comparable to a BMW 5-Series long-wheelbase model. Sitting in the third row, you’ll be amazed at just how much space there is.
Li Auto claims a range of 710 km for the MEGA, thanks in part to its low-drag design and efficient EV powertrain, which delivers 15.9 kWh/100 km. The 102.7-kWh CATL Qilin battery pack ensures that the Li MEGA can recharge in record time.
Super-Charged with 5C Fast Charging
With the launch of the Li MEGA, Li Auto is introducing its “5C fast charging” technology. The MEGA can draw an impressive 520 kW at peak from a compatible charger. Even at 60% state of charge, it still pulls 350 kW, meaning it can add 500 km of range in just 11-12 minutes.
