Italy has a long history in Automotive Components, especially in relation to tires and precision mechanics and in the Tool sector where it is a leading worldwide supplier of gears and cogs, connections, tools and dies. This sector in Italy employs about 190,000 people and is the third largest in Europe, after Germany and closely following France.
Italy was able to maintain this high level of performance during the Nineties when, after a call to assemblers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to raise the standards of quality and production safety in the sector, a rigorous selection of companies was carried out. In 2003, for the first time, Italian production of parts and components sold to foreign markets was greater than the amount sold to its domestic market.
