Founded on 28 August 1937, Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers; offering a full range of models, from minivehicles to large trucks.

In China, Toyota Motor Corp. cooperates in automobile manufacturing with First Auto Works (FAW) in Tianjin, Chengdu, Changchun and with Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd. in Guangzhou. In addition, Toyota conducts comprehensive cooperation with Chnia's enterprises in other aspects such as promoting the Toyota Production System (TPS), the Intellectual Transportation System (ITS) and the Green Cause.

Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC) was established on Sept. 1 2004, following approval by the Chinese government; it was expected to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, with production and sales of the mid-size Toyota Camry sedan scheduled to begin in mid-2006.

Capitalized at 1.3 billion yuan RMB (approx. ¥ 17.3 billion) with equity participation at 50% by both Guangzhou Automobile and TMC, GTMC — in the heart of China's largest automobile market of Guangdong Province — is expected to play an active role in the future development of Toyota's operations in China.

The GMTC-built Camry is scheduled to feature the AZ engine made by Guangqi Toyota Engine, Ltd. (GTE), an engine-making joint venture set up in February 2004 by Guangzhou Automobile and TMC.

FAW Toyota
On August 29, 2002, FAW Group Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation signed a significant agreement in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People, to establish a strategic and long-term cooperative relationship for joint cooperation. Thereafter, the two parties commenced a wide scope of joint activities including production of Toyota product in China and related transfers of technology.
