Huawei secretly tests driverless cars, involving in car-manufacturing with no suspense

On February 21th, reporters got information that Huawei is conducting R&D on driverless car project by cooperating with Tsinghua University in in-depth technologies. Related information shows that there is no suspense that Huawei will involve in auto area in the future.

Picture shows that the crude car uses four-wheel drive. Apart from automatic parking, it could also automatically avoid pedestrians and obstacles.

Since the year 2014, more and more scientific and technological enterprises have been involving in the auto industrial chain, even the auto manufacturing area. Currently, enterprises with production certificates on alternative energy vehicles are basically divided into three categories: traditional auto manufacturing enterprises with alternative energy vehicle business, upgraded auto parts companies and traditional auto industrial chain related companies. No domestic scientific and technological enterprises have been involving in auto manufacturing field with production certificates yet.

One common characteristic for scientific and technological enterprises stepping into auto manufacturing field is the combination of cloud and big data into auto industry. The domestic preferential policies on alternative energy vehicles make BEV a rare breakthrough. It’s not rare that Huawei, a globally influential scientific and technological company, to enter into the field.

But Huawei made statements publically on October 13th, 2016, that the company had no plan to enter into auto manufacturing field or launch Huawei auto brand. It would focus on ICT area and conduct wide cooperation with auto manufacturing companies to provide interconnected solving plans for auto platforms.

But Huawei’s campus recruitment plan shows that it has great needs for talents in auto industry. In fact, its layout in auto industry started early. For example, it had strategic cooperation with Changan Auto in 2014 in multi-areas such as connected cars, intelligent cars and international businesses. In an earlier time, Huawei also cooperated with Dongfeng Auto. Besides, it has been providing parts including large LCD touch screen and related operating system for some local models. It also cooperates with BMW, Daimler and Audi in 5G area, and promotes developments in AI and driverless cars.
