NIO’s 3rd production model EC6 hits market with price starting at 368,000 yuan before subsidy

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- EV innovator NIO's third mass-produced model, the NIO EC6, went on sale at the Chengdu Motor Show 2020 with three variants offered at one go. The vehicle is sold at the pre-subsidy prices ranging from 368,000 yuan ($52,542) to 526,000 yuan ($75,101).

The EC6, deemed as the coupe version of the ES6, will come with a panoramic-view sunroof to afford the cockpit with more openness. It is expected to take on such vehicles as the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and Tesla's Model Y.

Retaining the iconic “X-Bar” design language, the EC6 displays a striking resemblance to the ES6 in the frontal styling, but has a more sharply raked coupe roofline at the rear.

The “coupe” nature of the side profile is accentuated by the sleek rooflines stretching downward from the B pillar to the ducktail-shaped spoiler. Thanks to the flowing silhouette, the EC6 features a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd.

Remaining faithful to the ES6's interior, the EC6 comes standard with a Microfiber headliner and Nappa leather sports steering wheel. The Microcloud matte finishes to the dashboard and the door panels, adding to the sporty atmosphere of the interior.

The EC6 has a full-digital cabin with a 9.8-inch ultra-slim Instrument Cluster, an 11.3-inch HD multi-touch center display and NOMI Mate 2.0, NIO's unique digital assistant, fitted with an AMOLED full-circular display, creating an immersive user experience.

EC6 features factory-installed NIO Pilot hardware, including a Mobileye EyeQ4 chip and 23 sensors. NIO Pilot supports over 20 functions covering typical scenarios of car use in China. Functions can be upgraded over time via firmware-over-the-air (FOTA).

The EC6 is available in three trim levels, the Sport Edition, Performance Edition, and the Signature Edition. The Sport Edition is equipped with 160kW front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) and can accelerate to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds. The Performance version carries a 160 front PMSM and a 240kW rear asynchronous motor and can zip from 0-100km/h within 4.7 seconds.

The Performance and Signature Editions can be equipped with a standard 70kWh battery pack which enables the EC6 to reach an NEDC range of 440km, or an optional 100kWh battery pack to reach an NEDC range up to 615km (NIO EC6, photo source: NIO).
